There are not enough hours in the day.

I know I’m not alone in thinking this. I’ve spent a lot of time over the past five or more years looking for time-saving practices, devices, ways of being, and more. Spent a lot of time…trying to….save time…. Uh yup, that’s what I wrote.

The biggest problem with being a fearless creative person is, well, that it really takes something to stop me from creating new things. So my to-do list always is decidedly un-doable. Harumph. Argh. Blech… LOL!

Now that I’ve aired my most usual complaint, let me share with you what I discovered just moments ago. I’m too busy to do everything I need to get done. Like writing a useful blog entry (of which I would not categorize this as being one of those).

If anyone follows Working Artists, or me, online, anywhere, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that communication comes in fits and gushes. Why? Well, I’m still running a one woman show, and I find myself working in weekly pockets of tasks:

  • One week is website maintenance and evolution (very little outside communication needed or wanted), another week is spent promoting all the different events and classes coming up (all kinds of outside contact needed and wanted),
  • Another week is spent in back-to-back meetings (which can be extremely demanding since they are typically all over the city and I use Trimet to get to said back-to-backs…),
  • Another doing back office stuff that needs doing (which I really, really don’t like doing),
  • And then there are the parts of very week that are dedicated to my one-to-one strategy, planning and marketing clients.
  • Oh yeah, there’s time spent with the wonderful and delightful young adult daughter, teenage son and my 82-year old mom.
  • Um, and art-making.

With a schedule like that it’s a wonder I make it from day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month. Good lord – year-to-year now too…

I suppose that’s how five insane years pass.

A To-Do List generates and regenerates, acting like a perpetual to-do birthing device. I’m sure of it.

So, in order to reclaim some small strand of sanity I do one thing, the same thing each day, off my list:

A’s TO-DO LIST 06/03/09

  1. do you very best, and know that you’ve done your very best
  2. ….

Ahhhh. Ummmm. Yeeeaaahhhh. All better now.

A.
